Monte-Carlo - The IAAF is very pleased to announce the conclusion of a deal by IEC in sports, IAAF’s exclusive media rights agency for Europe and Africa, with the company Sports Extra Time (SET) for the Sub Saharan African territory for the period of 2011 to 2013.
Under the terms of the deal, SET will acquire a package of media rights including terrestrial, free to air and pay TV satellite rights as well as internet and mobile rights for the IAAF World Athletics Series to 2013 in the territory.
The deal covers all of terrestrial Sub Saharan Africa with the exclusion of South Africa and Ghana, where IEC has already concluded agreements.
SET has under contract a network of terrestrial broadcasters and has provided to IEC and the IAAF considerable terrestrial broadcast guarantees across Sub Saharan Africa.
SET is a Swiss based company active in the field of sponsorship and media rights acquisition and distribution and already has a contract with the Confédération Africaine d'Athlétisme (CAA), the IAAF’s continental association for the territory of Africa. Notably with regards to the 2010 CAA African Championships, SET recently achieved the best distribution of the media rights in the history of those championships.
“This is very good news for the IAAF,” commented IAAF President, Lamine Diack, “as not only is athletics’ terrestrial coverage in Sub Saharan Africa now ensured but, thanks to the previous agreements of IEC, through pay broadcasters Supersport, across all the territory, and Zuku TV, in number of Eastern African territories, it will get unprecedented pay satellite coverage. IEC’s innovative approach has produced a combination of deals that will provide athletics with better coverage than under the agreements that the IAAF had for the territory before 2010.”

Accord de diffusion conclu avec l’Afrique subsaharienne
Monte-Carlo - L'IAAF a le plaisir d'annoncer la conclusion d'un accord avec la société Sports Extra Time (SET) concernant l’Afrique subsaharienne et la période 2011-2013. Il a été négocié par IEC in sports, l’agence qui détient l’exclusivité des droits TV de l’IAAF pour l'Europe et l'Afrique.
Selon les termes de cet accord, SET a acquis tout un ensemble de droits audiovisuels qui associent télévision hertzienne gratuite, télévision par satellite payante, internet et portable pour toutes les compétitions de la Série Mondiale de l’Athlétisme jusqu’en 2013.
Le marché concerne l’Afrique subsaharienne à l'exclusion de l'Afrique du Sud et du Ghana, pour lesquels IEC avait déjà passé des accords.
En vertu du contrat, SET met à disposition tout un réseau de diffuseurs terrestres et offre à IEC et à l’IAAF des garanties de diffusion hertzienne considérable à travers l’Afrique subsaharienne.
SET est une entreprise basée en suisse, spécialisée dans la gestion des droits TV, media et marketing et la diffusion. SET est déjà sous contrat avec la Confédération Africaine d'Athlétisme (CAA), l’association continentale de l'IAAF pour le continent africain. A l’occasion de l’édition 2010 des Championnats d’Afrique sous l’égide de la CAA, SET a récemment réalisé la meilleure distribution des droits médias de l'histoire de ces championnats.

Mais en outre, grâce aux précédents accords d’IEC avec les diffuseurs de télévision payante Supersport (qui couvre tout le territoire africain) et Zuku TV (en Afrique orientale) l’IAAF est désormais assurée d’une couverture télévisuelle payante par satellite sans précédent. La démarche novatrice d’IEC a permis de diversifier les contrats offrant ainsi à l’athlétisme une couverture bien meilleure en Afrique que par le passé. »
