More than fifty veteran journalists were honoured for their career-long work in covering athletics at a ceremony in London on Thursday (10).
The event, sponsored by AIPS, recognised the 11 journalists who have covered each of the 16 editions of the IAAF World Championships since its inaugural edition in Helsinki in 1983.
“For our events we need advertisers, brands and companies, but journalists are the most loyal sponsors of all," said IAAF President Sebastian Coe, who presented diplomas of recognition to the 11 journalists.
"I know no one else but you who helped us grow our sport. You are the witnesses of our sport, and the reason we are one of the greatest.”
More than 100 journalists attended the event, hosted by Casa Atletica Italiana, Italy's Athletic House. Journalists who have covered ten or more editions of the World Championships were also recognised by AIPS President Gianni Merlo. IOC member Austin Sealy from Barbados and President of African Athletics Hamad Kalkaba Malboum were guests of honour at the ceremony.
