USA’s Christian Taylor and Tori Bowie have been voted the best athletes in the NACAC area for 2017.
After posting a world-leading 18.11m earlier in the year, Taylor went on to successfully defend his world triple jump title in London before ending his 2017 campaign by winning the IAAF Diamond League title.
Bowie won two gold medals in London. Her first came in the 100m, which she won with a season’s best of 10.85, and she followed it six days later with victory in the 4x100m. Earlier in the year she had also clocked a world-leading 21.77 over 200m.
The U20 awards went to world U18 triple jump champion Jordan Diaz of Cuba and high jumper Vashti Cunningham of the USA.
Cunningham also scooped the women’s ‘rising star’ award, while world 100m silver medallist Christian Coleman won the men’s equivalent.
The ballots were held later than usual due to the hurricanes that affected the Caribbean Area and forced NACAC to suspend their Council Meeting in September 2017.
